ZANTE, THE
GREEK WAY OF LIFE
Although Greece
is a European Community Country it differs from the way of life at
home and we believe that this is part of the beauty of Greece and
something which makes a Greek holiday so unique. The food, the
tavernas and the blue clear waters make it unique.
The Zakynthian people are very friendly and very traditional in many
ways. The day starts very early in Greece as does the time clock of
cockerels and donkeys, so you may find some of the activities taking
place near your accommodation are a bit more noisy than at home.
Generally when Greeks speak to each other you may think that they
are a loud or are arguing but don’t worry this is the norm. Shops
generally close for siesta between 2pm and 5pm but the ones in the
resorts are open all day and until late. Banks are open between 8am
and 2pm weekdays.
VACATING YOUR ROOM
It is standard international practice to vacate your room at midday
on the last day of your stay. Please bear this in mind when making
your travel arrangements, if you are arriving in Zakynthos with an
early morning flight and want to have your room ready for you on
your arrival and not wait until 2 o’clock in the afternoon it may be
as well to book your room from the day before. When you have made
your travel arrangements you can send us an E Mail and we will book
your accommodation accordingly. If you depart in the early hours of
the morning our office can book you either in the existing
accommodation or nearby day use at a reasonable charge or we can
arrange for left luggage facilities.
TRANSFERS
There are several different options that you can choose for your
transfer to your accommodation if is not included with your
accommodation. If you have included car hire in your booking with
us, of course, the car will be waiting for you at the airport or
harbour or any other arrival point in Zante that may be required. If
you make your own way by car hire or with your own transport
directions will be supplied to you of how to reach your
accommodation. If you require our transfer service either by taxi or
minibus our office can supply you with transfer rates.
PRICES & PRICE PANELS
Our price panels are showing prices per person and minimum occupancy
in the relevant accommodation. Child prices are for children 2-12
years old and always one child per 2 full price paying adults. For
infants, cots are available in the properties at a small daily
charge paid locally. When car hire is included in the price of the
property, the Car hire group is A and it can be upgraded to another
higher group by contacting our office for price and details.
HEALTH
There is a leaflet available from your doctor or the Department of
Health in your country if you are in Europe entitling you to free
reciprocal health treatment in Greece if you are resident in a
European Country. We suggest however that you have full travel
insurance for your holiday.
EXCURSIONS
At our office you can book all excursions offered on the island of
Zante and some on mainland Greece and Kefalonia at very competitive
rates. We show below the prices for 2007 for these excursions which
we hope will help you to budget your holiday spending. Island Tour
by Coach €20, Boat trip round the Island €27, Kefalonia trip €38,
Olympia trip €40, Athens 2 day trip €98 and many more.
EXTRA CHARGES
Extra charges may be levied for services or facilities which are not
mentioned on our web pages or your confirmation letter such as air
conditioning, safety deposit boxes, barbecues, deck chairs on the
beach, Jacuzzi, sauna, babysitting services, organised activities
such as Greek Nights, Barbecues, etc..
REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT
We have included in our booking conditions that a refundable deposit
of €50 on hotels, self catering and €100 on villas and cottages,
will be held at our office to reimburse owners for any damage to
their property. This deposit will be refunded to clients after check
out from the property by our office in full if no breakages were
found.
SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES
Some accommodations offer safety deposit facilities on site at a
small daily charge. If this service is not available at your
accommodation, we can offer this service at our office for a small
charge.
INCOMING E MAIL MESSAGE FACILITIES
We offer our clients at Zante Holiday Bureau an E Mail messaging
service whilst on holidays. Our guests can have sent to our office E
Mail messages from home or their business and we will be only too
pleased to make sure that those E Mails, as soon as received, are
delivered to our guests free of charge.
INSECTS & PESTS
As most of our properties are within olive groves or gardens and
being a very hot country insects, especially mosquitoes can ruin
your holiday so we suggest that whilst on holiday you close your
windows before dark, and bring a good supply of repellents either
from home or locally.
WATER
Water is a precious commodity in Greece and we ask that it is used
with care. In most cases on the island tap water is not drinkable,
as it has a high mineral content and we suggest that you buy bottled
water to use throughout your stay. Most properties use solar panels
for their hot water heating system so sometimes early in the morning
and during the return from the beach when everybody wants to use the
water at the same time there can be a problem however as Greece is a
very hot country most likely you will need a cool shower rather than
a piping hot one.
EXCHANGE & CURRENCY
The currency in Greece is the Euro like most of the European
Community Countries. Exchange facilities are offered at our office
if necessary. Banks are mainly located in Zakynthos Town with cash
points and exchange facilities. There are cash dispensing machines
in most resorts but these can run out of money so you should not
rely on always being able to withdraw cash on resort.
DISABLED CLIENTS
In our web pages we try to point out properties which will not be
suitable for disabled persons. If you have any disability, when you
make your booking in the comments box please mention any special
requirements you would have so that we can take proper care of all
the arrangements necessary or advise you of facilities available for
disabled holidaymakers.
